Our Story
CN Build is a family owned and operated business founded by Craig Norris in 2016. Having carried out his apprenticeship with Southam Builders, Craig was introduced to the world of high-end residential new builds and renovations. Needless to say, the expectation to deliver quality workmanship throughout his initial years in the trade has stuck with Craig.
Craig has a keen eye for detail and is passionate about getting every element right. He is hands on, solutions driven and present on every project that he takes on. You can rest assured that Craig will be all over every aspect of your renovation, communicating directly with his sub-contractors and clients throughout the entirety of your project.
Craig’s main ethos at CN Build is to have an open book policy. We understand that undertaking a new build, renovation or extension to your home can be one of the biggest expenses that we incur in our life time. As such, we aim to be as transparent as possible with costs, whilst keeping your budget in mind. Our Process
Let’s Chat
As with any project, making initial contact is the first step. We will discuss with you what you’re looking to achieve and what stage you are at in your renovation journey. If you already have architectural plans drawn up, we would request to view these to gain a greater understanding of the scope of works and begin the estimation process.
Let’s Meet
The next step is to meet onsite and gauge your vision for your renovation or alteration in finer detail. If you are still at the design stage and need a hand sourcing the right architect, we have relationships with many professionals and can recommend the right person for the job. Depending on how extensive the renovation or extension is, we may need to arrange a second site visit for any reps, sub-contractors or an architect to run through the project. If the plans are already finalised, we will send these out to our reputable sub-contractors to submit their pricing after the initial site visit.
Let’s Talk Numbers
Once we have the preliminary drawings or consented plans, CN Build can begin to look at the all-important budget. We know how fundamental budget is, regardless of whether it’s a simple bathroom refresh or a full-scale renovation. For more complex projects, we offer a quantity surveying service. This will give you a much better understanding of the detailed costs which can assist in decisions around “wish list” items. We can also provide pricing at this stage, along with a timeframe for your build.
We will do our very best to ensure everything is included within the pricing. Your tailored building contract will outline what a variation may look like and detail any variables that may not be covered within your pricing.
Let’s Sign The Contract
Once you’re comfortable with the pricing and you’re ready to proceed, we will organise for a building contract to be drafted and sent out. This will cover all the intricate details, including the option to sign up for the NZCB Halo Guarantee.
We will also provide a firm start date at this stage so that if you’re planning on moving out or if you need to rearrange your home in preparation, you can get yourself organised.
Let’s Get Code of Compliance
If your renovation or alteration was consented, then a Code of Compliance will need to be obtained. A series of council inspections will occur throughout the build (these are outlined in your schedule of inspections provided by the council when consent is granted), and a final inspection will be carried out once the build is fully completed.
At this stage, you can opt to go for a Code of Compliance yourself, or CN Build can do this for you. As it’s quite the process, most people request that we do it for them. Once the council is satisfied with all of the documents obtained, they will issue you with a final invoice. Upon payment of your final invoice, your Code of Compliance Certificate will be issued.
